January 2020 Desktop Wallpaper

Welcome to the new year my friends! This morning the first thing I did was step out on our balcony and take a deep breath of the morning air. And that is my hope for you today – that you would pause to inhale deeply and enjoy the freshness of this new day, this new year.

December 2019 Desktop Wallpaper

This wallpaper is created from a commissioned painting I completed last month. The painting is titled “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in” which is from a Leonard Cohen song. I thought it the perfect ode to December as these days are darkening but we celebrate the lights.

November 2019 Desktop Wallpaper

In my hometown in Kansas, they put on a city-wide food drive near the end of November where tons of churches in town “leave the lights on” and take food donations though-out the day. This desktop background is pulled from the poster design I created for them this year (so if you live in Hutchinson, KS it might look familiar.) For all of you, whether in KS or afar, my hope is that this desktop would inspire you to “leave the lights on” for those who need it this month and to donate some food! Much love,

Betony

October 2019 Desktop Wallpaper

I am sitting out in my garage working on a large wood mural that is getting installed at our local library next week. I just had to run inside to get a hoodie and make myself a cup of hot tea because my fingers are so cold I’m having trouble holding my paintbrush. And I love it so much. It’s misty this morning and my tree in my front yard is turning more golden by the day. Yesterday we put out all our spooky Halloween decorations. This is my favorite time of the year.
Happy October friends. Drink it in.

For the first day of autumn, we woke up early and went to a hot air balloon launch at our local community college. This wallpaper is inspired by that moment and holding on to beauty and wonder in our memories.

September 2019 Desktop Wallpaper

Happy September!

Welcome to September -a month filled to the brim with new energy for the season, an embarking on new endeavors, a month filled with learning, and full of the fruits of our gardens. I hope you have lots of fun and adventure to look forward to. I plan on visiting our local orchard to pick apples, pulling out all the fall decorations, lighting the autumn scented candles, and paying attention as the season begins to shift.

Much love to you,

Betony

Because I grew up on an apple orchard, I get so excited about the onset of fruit picking season. It is one of my very favorite seasons. As farmer’s market stands start to showcase the fruits of their labor, something in me starts to celebrate right along with them. I don’t have any fruit trees at our new house (yet), but I have a secret map of fruit tree locations around town that are on public property, abandoned parking lots, or back alleys that I sneakily (ha ha) frequent as their apples and other fruits start to ripen. This wallpaper is inspired by all of you teachers and students heading back to school and also you apple-picking sisters and brothers.

A New Children’s Book Illustrated by Betony Coons

Gardening is a deeply centering act for me. When spring comes around I am always eager to get outside and begin digging in the dirt.

A little Arlo garden helper inspiration

So when Patricia Long showed me her story about sharing called “Mr. Gibsons Garden”, I was in! I’ve worked with Pat before when I illustrated her story “The Stitches Fairy”, so I knew this would be a well-told tale I could share with my kids and also with people who enjoy my art as well.

It begins with Mr. Gibson, who is an excellent gardener, but isn’t that great at sharing. Will he learn how to be a better neighbor?

Here are some pictures from the very long but satisfying process of illustrating a children’s book –

April 2019 Desktop Wallpaper

We have slowly begun to hear bird songs in the morning here. I’m sure we will get another big snow before winter makes her exit, but those bird songs in the early morning light bring me such joy. This wallpaper was created using lots of little bits and pieces of collected elements. I hope you enjoy this more subtle April desktop.
Much Love, Betony

March 2019 Desktop Wallpaper

It snowed another three inches in Colorado today, but I have been getting that gardening itch in my fingers. I am so ready for those first glimpses of green! This month’s wallpaper is inspired by/features antique garden plans from France. I’m hoping to plan out my own tiny garden soon. Happy March!
