My Time as “Artist in Residence” at the Denver Children’s Museum, Fall 2017

Today is my last official Open Studio as the artist in residence at the Children’s Museum in Denver! (If you are in the area, please come say hello!)

The three months have flown by! I still have some finishing touches to do on my leave behind art piece and get to finish off my stay at the museum with a party on the 25th of October. But, I wanted to write this post and share a few of my favorite moments from the past three months with you and also invite you to the closing reception. Getting to be part of the magic that the Children’s Museum staff creates on a daily basis was such a gift and getting to play alongside kids and families and create art together was a dream. I’m still pinching myself that I got the job. Enjoy flipping through these photos!

I’ll see you Wednesday, October 25th at 6 PM! Here’s the info for the event.

Here is a nice little write up they did about me –

And more work on the leave behind piece…

October 2017 Free Calendar Desktop and iPhone Wallpaper

Happy October friends! Goodbye summer!

I been enjoying reading this Mary Oliver Poem called Song for Autumn

In the deep fall
don’t you imagine the leaves think how
comfortable it will be to touch
the earth instead of the
nothingness of air and the endless
freshets of wind? And don’t you think
the trees themselves, especially those with mossy,
warm caves, begin to think

of the birds that will come — six, a dozen — to sleep
inside their bodies? And don’t you hear
the goldenrod whispering goodbye,
the everlasting being crowned with the first
tuffets of snow? The pond
vanishes, and the white field over which
the fox runs so quickly brings out
its blue shadows. And the wind pumps its
bellows. And at evening especially,
the piled firewood shifts a little,
longing to be on its way.

Much love,

Betony

September 2017 Free Calendar Desktop and iPhone Wallpaper

I’m a couple of days late on this one! Sorry about that. For the background of this one,  I found this cool floral print around a really old map of LA. It reminded me so much of what I love about September – that in-between of summer and autumn. I deconstructed the print and created this cool repeating floral print with cut botanicals on top. Hope you enjoy it!

Much love,

Betony

August feels like something new, doesn’t it? The beginning of fresh adventures. Setting sail into the unknown. Looking skyward.
I hope that you enjoy this month’s artwork and that it brings a little serenity to your days.

July 2017 Free Calendar Desktop and iPhone Wallpaper

It is fun for me to make these desktop backgrounds each month because I don’t plan them out. The direction they end up is often as much of a surprise for me as it is for you. This month, I started with a star themed red pastel drawing and ended up here with this bold background. Parts of it are pulled from a swatch of 1940’s wallpaper.  Fun, right?

Giants & Pilgrims were Featured on a Podcast: We talk Creating in the Chaos w/ “Ink & Echo”

Betony and I grabbed a babysitter so we could feel more adult last Tuesday. We were invited to speak on a podcast called “Ink & Echo”. One of the podcast duo named Josh Gaines came to hang out with us in our backyard/garage studio. Honestly, we had an absolutely lovely time and even when we had to relieve the babysitter and the interview was done we asked Josh to stay longer! It felt like we were just getting started.

Here’s the link. Betony & I’s time begins around 25 minutes in, but it’s good to get to know Josh and his co-hort, Andy Othling and hear their banter.

And, just to let you know, Betony joked about how having a mic in front of her is one of her least favorite things, so she probably wouldn’t talk much. But then she really opened up on some cool things!! It was a great time.

May Free Calendar Desktop and iPhone Wallpaper

Here in Colorado, May 1st is the planting date. Which means we shouldn’t (fingers crossed) have any more freezes. It means I get to visit the local plant nursery for the first time of the season and come home with all sorts of new flower and veggie babies. It means summer is inevitable. It means school is wrapping up and days are lengthening. It feels hopeful and exciting. Full of anticipation for the rest and relaxation of lazy days. Hopefully these new little artworks will bring a little bit of the spirit of May to your spaces.

Much Love,

Betony
