Midwestern Trees

Midwestern Trees is an album and art series, an attentive study on these living entities of our landscape that have become symbols and stories within our personal and communal lives.
SOUND:
The songwriting features a wide assortment of instruments and arrangements and was mixed and mastered by Dave Wilton at Saint Ida’s Studio in Lafayette, CO. The featuring of vintage synthesizer is unique to this Giants & Pilgrims project.
Every song on the album corresponds with a companion painting done by Betony Coons, seen on the right.
SIGHT: The art series of Midwestern Trees, released October 2022, is an exploration of personal history and place as associated with the landscape found where Betony Coons, the artist, grew up. The vibrant depictions of the different tree varieties invites the viewer to recall their own stories and interactions with the beautiful forests we encounter in the living world.
Bellwether
Released March 2017
Bellwether is an album and art series about belief and the searching of sacred space.
SOUND: The album, released during 2017, happens in three movements: Cathedrals (March 2017), Dark Fields (June 2017) & Tables (October 2017). The songwriting features a wide assortment of instruments and arrangements and reflects these impressions of sacred space presented. Bellwether is mixed and mastered by Dave Wilton at Saint Ida’s Studio in Lafayette, CO.

SIGHT: The art series of Bellwether, released March 2017, follows the narrative of religious archetypes (ie baptism, desert experiences, sacrifice) as interpreted in personal terms by the artist. Prints of each painting are available in the shop.
Becoming

Becoming is an album and art series about how none of us are static. We are so dynamic, as there is no arrival point for the soul. We are always in the constant process of Becoming.

Almanac No. 1

SOUND: Giants & Pilgrims’ sound is that of Indie Midwest Toy-Chest Folk. This first album Almanac No. 1 is a collection of eclectic, singer-songwriter anthems on home, love, and struggle. The extensive studio work features a wide assortment of instruments and arrangements (featuring the “Giants & Pilgrims Gospel Tears” choir) and was recorded by Dave Wilton at Saint Ida’s Studio in Lafayette, CO.

SIGHT: Giants & Pilgrims’ art is painted collages filled with story, color, and whimsy. Betony Coons’ Almanac No. 1 paintings are large, iconic images holding frenetic energy and bold color (and incorporate portions of her children’s’ artwork as well. Can you spot it?). The pieces explore home, love and struggle. Prints of each painting are available in the shop. All the original works have been sold.
