November 2021 Free Wallpaper

This morning in my Facebook memories, a picture came up of our family gathered around a table lighting a set of candles. For the last several years we have celebrated All Saints Day (November 1st) by taking a moment to pause at the end of our day and light a candle for someone who has been a light to us. It’s been a simple act that has felt deeply grounding.

Poppies are often used as a symbol for “Remembrance” on Memorial Day with roots in WW1. But something about these vintage 1950’s poppies made me feel like November. The image is pulled from a cutting board I found at a Thrift Store (and sadly didn’t buy) but just snapped a photo because I loved the colors. That the flowers speak to remembering those we love and that they were originally on a tool for preparing food seems perfect for this month of feasting and family. Happy November friends!

October 2021 Free Wallpaper

Double double toil and trouble!! Welcome to the spookiest month of the year. Hopefully this wallpaper puts you in an October mood! I enjoyed weaving the connections between the imagery – delicate webs, to antique lace, to the glow of a candle, to the sliver of the moon I saw on my walk this morning. I particularly like how the iphone wallpapers coordinate with the desktop this time (that check pattern is very similar to my grandmother’s cloth napkins we used when we were kids!). Makes me feel a little nostalgic. By the way, in case you were wondering, our theme for this month is “Core” – like getting to the heart of things, and staying centered.

Happy Haunting everyone!

April 2021 Free Wallpaper and Playlist

As we make our way out of winter and into the very beginning of spring, our blessing for you is that you begin to “Awaken” – to rise and meet the day that is given to you. Vaccinations, new leadership, breathing easier – the world is waking up again. Take it slowly, but notice the green shoots pushing through, the light coming in the window a little earlier, the strength you have gained from the hardship you have navigated, and walk out into the sunrise of a new day.

I keep thinking about William Blake’s poem – “Awake! awake O sleeper of the land of shadows, wake! expand!
I am in you and you in me, mutual in love divine:”

We are moving into new places, friends. May you walk boldly with eyes open wide.

February 2021 Wallpaper and Playlist

Welcome to February friends! Our families’ theme for this month is “Poetry”. We are looking at all the ways the rhythms of our days are filled with the poetic stuff of life. Sometimes we overlook the beauty in the simplicity. This last week my kumquat tree that Tim gave me for my birthday had its first fruit ripen. Every morning I wake up to bright orange fruit on the tree in my bedroom windows’ sunshine. Holding one of the orange fruits in my hands – it feels like magic, like poetry. My wish for you this month is that you can savor the little bright moments fully.

Also, we have introduced a new monthly rhythm! Tim is curating a playlist for you all each month. This month is called “Poetry” and is filled with rich, romantic songs that are the perfect warm and vintage feel to your February. Check it out on Spotify!

July 2020 Desktop & iPhone Wallpaper

Happy July friends! It’s hot! Ha! I find when I wake up in the morning that the cool morning air found inGrams every artist early summer is more and more fleeting. The grass in my yard is starting to feel crunchy underfoot as it retreats from the sun. And the kids beg for the cool refreshment of pools and popsicles earlier every afternoon.

I hope you have fun 4th of July plans that are simple and celebratory. We are scheming about an early morning hike to a waterfall. Enjoy these new bright, summer sun-ray inspired wallpaper!

Much love,

Betony

May 2020 Free Desktop & iPhone Wallpaper

I am getting ready to start a mural downtown this week. It feels good to be heading toward something tangible with a start and a finish. This desktop was inspired by one of the design concepts that didn’t get picked. But I still enjoy the vibrant colors and I hope they will bring some brightness to your screens. Happy May friends!!

March 2020 Desktop & iPhone Wallpaper

For the last five years (at least), something really difficult has happened to our family in March. One year it was our daughters bout with seizures, one year was the fight that almost ended our marriage, last year Tim’s dad’s cancer surgery, one year a miscarriage, etc. I know I always talk about how each season is my favorite, but after the past years, March has become the month I dread. Yesterday I was telling my husband how I have this sense of impending doom already. And I don’t want that. I don’t want to be that person. Historically March is the end of winter. It’s the month when the store rooms are bare. It’s the last leg of the hard race of winter. So it makes sense that it would be a place where pruning happens and we experience hardship. But it’s also where we get to see the hope of spring. It’s where the grays of winter start to recede and we discover crocuses under the snow. The light begins to grow stronger. And the plants know. Over the years, I realized that I usually gravitate towards themes of color, and light, and spectrum in March. We are in a place where we are longing for light. So friends, let’s head out into the sunshine and feel the air strengthening our weary bones. Happy March friends!

October 2019 Desktop Wallpaper

I am sitting out in my garage working on a large wood mural that is getting installed at our local library next week. I just had to run inside to get a hoodie and make myself a cup of hot tea because my fingers are so cold I’m having trouble holding my paintbrush. And I love it so much. It’s misty this morning and my tree in my front yard is turning more golden by the day. Yesterday we put out all our spooky Halloween decorations. This is my favorite time of the year.
Happy October friends. Drink it in.

For the first day of autumn, we woke up early and went to a hot air balloon launch at our local community college. This wallpaper is inspired by that moment and holding on to beauty and wonder in our memories.

Because I grew up on an apple orchard, I get so excited about the onset of fruit picking season. It is one of my very favorite seasons. As farmer’s market stands start to showcase the fruits of their labor, something in me starts to celebrate right along with them. I don’t have any fruit trees at our new house (yet), but I have a secret map of fruit tree locations around town that are on public property, abandoned parking lots, or back alleys that I sneakily (ha ha) frequent as their apples and other fruits start to ripen. This wallpaper is inspired by all of you teachers and students heading back to school and also you apple-picking sisters and brothers.
