Mary visits her relative, Elizabeth, who will give birth to John the Baptist. And the baby leaps for joy in Elizabeth’s womb upon hearing Mary, the mother of Jesus’, voice. The story gives us a foreshadowing of these two men’s friendship. The two skulls can represent the duality of Mary and Elizabeth, Jesus and John. The circle in the center of the piece implies several things but especially a womb and an abstract river, showcasing John the Baptist’s future calling.
